Saint Tropez, France – Defending champion Wallycento Galateia gives the title to Wallycento Magic Carpet 3, the Wally Class champion of the 2018 racing series.
Magic Carpet 3 performed consistently throughout the racing series and the Wally Class Trophy rewards indeed the yacht with the best results during the season.
She fiercely fought for the title in tight competition with the third Wallycento Tango, who was leading by only 4,5 points before the last regatta Les Voiles de Saint Tropez that was decisive for the trophy top spot.
Magic Carpet 3 ends the racing season with 70,5 points, Tango with 63 points while J One completes the podium with 59,5 points.
The 2018 calendar included four events, with the following winners: Magic Blue won Sail Racing Palmavela, Tango the Rolex Giraglia combined inshore and offshore races, and Lyra both Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and Voiles de Saint Tropez.
The Wally Class Trophy is assigned using the high point scoring system, that most accurately reflects those who raced most consistently throughout the season. Each boat receives point(s) equal to the number of boats she beats, plus one point. The final score is the sum of all the points of the individual races: the Wally with the highest number of points wins the Wally Class Trophy.
Each event has the same coefficient. Points are calculated in consideration of each event discard as stated in the notice of race and is the sum of every valid race. Only yachts participating at least in three events can compete for the seasonal trophy.
The overall Wally Class Trophy is a triennial challenge established in 2016: the owner who wins three times, keeps the trophy for ever. To celebrate the exhilarating competition and performance of the Wally Class, North Sails, long-time friend and technological partner of Wally, developed the one-of-a-kind trophy, designed and carbon fibre built by Steve Marten in New Zealand.
A unique piece to award the best of the best.
