Porto Cervo, Italy – The Wally Class racing resumes after the summer cruises: today starts the acclaimed Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, reserved to the large yachts and impeccably organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda from 2 to 8 September.
The magnificent event has a perfect mix of sport and social activities, with the title sponsor Rolex hosting memorable parties.
Six Wallys will align on the starting line tomorrow Monday 3 September for the first race.
The defending champion Galateia will face her direct strong opponents: the other two Wallycentos Magic Carpet3 and Tango at her debut in these spectacular waters. The fleet is completed by the multi-winners of this iconic trophy, the 24-meter J One and the 27-meter Magic Blue, and by the 24-meter Lyra with her new owner debuting in the highly competitive Wally Class.
The Wally Class will race five days mixing windward-leeward and spectacular coastal courses to assign the coveted Rolex trophy, while the Gino Bossi Trophy 2018 will be awarded to the Wally winner of the longest costal course of the regatta.
Tango currently leads the seasonal Wally Class Trophy with 29 points, followed by Magic Carpet 3 with 25 points and reigning champion Galateia with 24 points.
