Les Voiles de Saint Tropez 2014

Saint Tropez, France – 300 boats participated in the 2014 edition of this unique rendez-vous that gathers the most extraordinary modern sailing boats and the most beautiful classic yachts: from the latest wallycento Magic Carpet Cubed to the 1885 auric yacht Partridge, 129 years of yacht design were on display in Saint Tropez.
This year the Voiles de Saint Tropez and the Wally Class celebrated their 15th anniversary. It’s not just a coincidence that they have the same age: Wally is not only the most faithful sponsor of the event, that it has been supporting it since the inception, but it also gave the impulse to the renaissance of a Nioulargue-style regatta.
Such a long partnership results in Wally being an integral part of the event by aligning its fleet in the coveted Quai d’Honneur offering a fascinating contrast with the top world classic yachts.
The Les Voiles de Saint Tropez celebrated its 15-year existence with splendour and grand spectacle, offering 4.000 sailors from the world over, a packed week of racing, enjoyment and conviviality.

Since 2007, the Wally Class has its own race committee and race courses, with the start off the Pampelonne beach. This exclusive organisation allows to select and manage the number and type of races according to the weather, enabling the Wallys to have the best competition.
Twelve yachts lined up on the starting line:  Angels' share, Galma, Genie, Inti, J One, Kenora, Magic Blue, Magic Carpet Cubed, Ryokan 2, Sensei, Tango G, and Y3K. The compelling fleet fought for the best results in three classifications: Overall (the whole fleet), Group 2 (Genie, Inti, Kenora, Ryokan 2) and Group 80 (J One and Tango G).

On the water, the week offered different conditions: the medium winds and big seas of the first two days gave the way to light air and flat water with summer temperatures from Wednesday onwards, obliging the Race committee to cancel the race on Friday. Four races were completed: two coastal courses and two WLs.
The flawless Magic Carpet Cubed dominated the week winning three races, and proving once more that wallycento is a step forward in yachting evolution: she embodies the new generation of high performance sailing cruiser, setting new higher standards in naval architecture, systems, equipments, and construction technology.
The second place overall went to Magic Blue and the third to Galma, that this year showed a huge improvement in both boat performance and crew work.
Last year runner up J One won the Group 80 and Ryokan 2 the Group 2.

Magic Carpet Cubed won also the BMW Trophy, dedicated to the winner of the Wally Division.
In addition, she won the 2014 Wally racing series as well.
Congratulations to this incredible team and exceptional yacht winner of three trophies in one event!

The Voiles de Saint Tropez traditionally ends the Wally Class season that this year had a record participation in all the four events: a perfect celebration of its 15th birthday, long life to the largest fleet of high performance super yachts!

See you in Palma for Gaastra Palmavela at the end of April 2015.
