Black Sails

At 39.95m (131’1’’), the Wally 130 Black Sails remains one of the most recognizable sailing yachts launched by Wally. Delivered in 2009, she features naval architecture by Javier Soto Acebal with exterior and original interior styling by Wally. The result is a yacht that stood out both for her striking all-black hull and carbon accents, as well as her focus on performance.

Her history since launch has been unusually eventful. In 2010 she underwent a major rebuild at Lürssen in Germany, where Harrison Eidsgaard re-designed the interior and Vedder GmbH executed the outfitting. Exterior works included new teak decks and a redesigned deck structure. That project was awarded the World Superyacht Award for Best Refit in 2011. A second refit followed in 2013 at Hinckley Yachts, and under current ownership she has received regular upgrades each winter.

Performance has always been central to her design brief. Black Sails carries a Hall Spars high-modulus carbon rig with EC6 carbon standing rigging. The configuration allows for efficient short-handed cruising or a more powerful setup for regatta racing. Her 450hp MAN engine provides a cruising speed of 11 knots under power, ensuring passage-making capability when the wind drops. For a 40-meter yacht, she offers both pace and balance under sail, while remaining manageable for a professional crew of five.

On the exterior, the open transom functions as a sea-level terrace and gives direct access to the water. Her open deck layout makes good use of her 40-metre length and can be shaded by a retractable awning system. A particularly interesting feature is her free-standing dining and lounge furniture. This can be arranged for intimate dinners, cleared entirely for racing, or set up to accommodate larger gatherings.

The interiors by Harrison Eidsgaard take a deliberately pared-back approach. The main salon has the lounge area to starboard and a formal dining table to port, with large windows keeping the space bright. Accommodation is arranged for up to 11 guests in four cabins. The master suite features a queen-size bed and ensuite shower room. Two cabins are convertible between twin and double layouts and include Pullman beds, making them suitable for families. A fourth cabin, currently arranged as an office, also converts into a guest space with bunks. All cabins have their own bathrooms.

Crew quarters for five ensure professional service and support for both cruising and racing campaigns. The practicality of the layout means she can adapt between family use, charter and regatta participation without compromise.

Over the years, Black Sails has built a reputation and represents a significant moment in Wally’s development of large sailing yachts. She has the pedigree of an award-winning refit, and she continues to be maintained to a very high standard. With EU VAT paid and a history of continual investment, she is presented in turn-key condition.
