Visionary yachtsman Luca Bassani builds a family yacht that combines cruising comfort with the performance of the maxi. As an innovator he develops a number of novel features designed to make sailing easier, safer and more fun. These include carbon composite construction, a self-tacking jib, swept-back spreaders with no running backstays, flush decks, a forward owner's cabin and a separate guest cockpit. The boat is called Wallygator…, and it makes the sailing world sit up and take note. After the 1992 New Zealander America’s Cup Boat, the Wallygator was the first boat in the world to have a carbon mast.
