Wally owners are competitive by nature, so the idea of the Wally Class came very easily. It was launched in 1999 to allow Wally’s much admired maxi yachts to race against each other within the framework of larger regattas. Some of the Mediterranean’s most prestigious sailing events were thrilled by the spectacle of large Wally fleets manoeuvring at close quarters. As the fleet grew, so the Class was split into three different groups comprising yachts with similar performance potential. With so many Wally yachts competing today, the need for a dedicated Wally Class has lessened. It has pivoted instead to become a club that unites passionate Wally owners across the sailing spectrum.
